Tokyo is home to the 6th and newest of the World Marathon Majors. 2017 will see the 11th anniversary of the marathon and an opportunity that’s not to be missed.
The proposed course for 2017 is: Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building – Lisabashi – Kanda – Nihonbashi – Asakusa Kaminari mon – Ryogoku – Monzen nakacho – Ginza – Takanawa – Hibiya – Tokyo Station – Gyoko dori. The proposed finish is at the Imperial Palace.
With its blend of old and new, Tokyo provides a fantastic venue for one of the worlds greatest marathons. Options to explore are endless, the city is bursting with everything necessary to satisfy fascinations of culture vultures, history buffs, tech enthusiasts and foodies alike.

4 night / 5 day full package travel itinerary:
Wednesday 22nd February
If you book a flight inclusive package, you will leave London Heathrow with British Airways to Tokyo Narita Airport at 13.50pm for an overnight flight. Flight upgrades to World Traveller Plus and Business Class are available on request.
Thursday 23rd February
If you have a flight inclusive package, you will arrive at Tokyo Narita at 10.35am where our staff will meet you for a transfer, escorting you to the Tokyo Marathon Expo so that you can collect your race number before completing the transfer to the hotel for a 14.00pm, check in.
Tokyo Marathon Expo
The Tokyo marathon expo is the largest Running trade show in Japan with an average of 60,000 visitors annually. In order to register for the Tokyo marathon it is vital that you attend the expo before the race in order to pick up your race number. Race numbers will NOT be available on the day of the race. When picking up your number make sure to bring a valid photo ID and the confirmation of your entry, you cannot arrange for another person to pick up your number for you.
The expo will take place at Tokyo Big Sight West Exhibition Hall during the following times:
- February 23 : From 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- February 24: From 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- February 25: From 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
If you have a hotel and guaranteed entry booked with us, but no flight, we will meet you at the hotel, please note that check in is not until 14.00pm. If you arrive prior to this time, you will be able to leave your belongings with concierge until your room becomes available, while you spend the afternoon enjoying Tokyo, or attending the marathon expo.
During the evening, the Sports Tours International staff will host a get together so that you can meet with your fellow runners.
Friday 24th February
If you have not yet been to the expo then you can head across town to the Tokyo big sight to register for the race and pick up your number between 10:00 am and 20:30 pm. Otherwise this is a free day for you to enjoy Tokyo.
Today we will also have a Private Sports Tours fully escorted day trip to Mt Fuji. Details, cost and option to book will follow in due course. This option will be open to runners and spectators.
Saturday 25th February
A free day for you to enjoy Tokyo. The Tokyo Marathon Expo is open again from 10:00 am to 19:30 pm for you to register. Today is your last day to collect your marathon bib if you have not done so already.
Today is also the day of the International Friendship Run, open to runners and spectators. Full course details for this event will be confirmed in due course. The distance is approx. 5k. If you wish to take part, please select this as an optional extra within the booking process.
Sunday 26th February – Tokyo Marathon 2017
This is the day of the 2017 Tokyo marathon. We will arrange an early breakfast on the morning of the marathon at 5:45 am.
The start location is outside the Keio Plaza and the starting corals are quite easy to get to from our hotel. You can hand in a personal bag at the start of the race and pick it up at the end from the Tokyo big sight at the end of the race.
At the end of the marathon, you will be transferred back to the Keio Plaza by official buses (a coach pass will be given to you by our staff at the hotel. The rest of the day you are free to rest, celebrate and explore!
Tokyo Marathon Celebration Party – There is a official Tokyo Marathon Celebration After Run Party held this evening. Time TBC and location is at: Happoen, an authentic Japanese location with beautiful gardens. Join 500 runners and companions to enjoy Japanese food, Sake, a Sumo Performance and live music. Runners and spectators are welcome. Transfers from the Keio Plaza are included. A special night to remember your trip Tokyo. To book your place, please select the optional extra within the booking process. Please note places are limited and are first come first serve basis.
Monday 27th February
Sports Tours International staff will escort you to Tokyo Narita airport to catch your flight. Our transfer will be running at approximately 07.00am for the 12.35am flight. Upgrades to World traveller or business class are available upon request.
